Futian Investment Holding, a Chinese state-owned enterprise, has made history by issuing the world’s first public Real World Asset (RWA) bond on the Ethereum blockchain.

Named FTID Token 001, the bond is denominated in Chinese yuan with a total issuance of 5 billion yuan (approx. $700 million). It carries a 2.62% coupon rate and a two-year maturity. The bond has been assigned an A- credit rating by Fitch Ratings, marking it as a credible investment-grade product.

Ethereum-Powered RWA Bond Sets Global Precedent

What makes this issuance groundbreaking is that it is the first time a state-owned company has used a public blockchain to issue bonds directly to the public.

The offering was managed by GF Securities in Hong Kong, where the tokenized bond was subsequently listed on traditional stock exchanges in Shenzhen and Macau. This marks the first global case of tokenized securities on a public blockchain being formally traded on existing financial exchanges.

Until now, most tokenized bonds in Hong Kong were issued privately. The public sale of FTID Token 001 represents a major step toward mainstream adoption of blockchain-based finance.

Hong Kong’s Strategic Role in Blockchain Finance

The use of Ethereum’s transparent and decentralized infrastructure highlights a new model for bridging blockchain technology with traditional finance.

While mainland China maintains strict restrictions on cryptocurrencies, Hong Kong has positioned itself as a hub for financial innovation and blockchain integration. Futian Investment’s move underscores how state-owned enterprises are strategically leveraging Hong Kong’s flexible regulatory environment to experiment with tokenized finance.

This historic bond issuance may pave the way for broader adoption of RWA tokenization, reshaping global capital markets and solidifying Hong Kong’s role as a testing ground for next-generation financial reforms.
