Trezor and Ledger Unveil 2025 Hardware Wallets

Major hardware wallet providers Ledger and Trezor have both announced new self-custody devices for 2025, offering users enhanced features for securing their bitcoin holdings.

Trezor Safe 7 debuts with quantum-ready architecture

Trezor’s new Safe 7 introduces dual secure elements, Bluetooth, wireless charging, and, notably, a quantum-ready design.

This marks the first Trezor wallet capable of wireless connectivity with iPhones and other devices.

Priced at 249 euros, the Safe 7 uses the auditable TROPIC01 chip from Tropic Square, paired with an EAL6+ secondary element.

Trezor COO Danny Sanders commented that the device is:

“Technically capable of receiving post-quantum updates when the time comes.”

Ledger rebrands and updates features

Ledger, based in Paris, has released the Ledger Nano Gen5, now referred to as a “Ledger signer” rather than a hardware wallet.

The device introduces a larger screen for improved usability, continued Bluetooth support, and the recently launched Ledger Recovery Key.

It is priced at $179 and incorporates a design collaboration with Apple icon designer Susan Kare.

A Ledger spokesperson explained:

“Ledger Nano brings the improved user experience from our secure touchscreen signers, Ledger Flex and Ledger Stax, in a more affordable package. The bigger screen vs the Nano S Plus and Nano X enables a more intuitive interface, as well as optimal support for clear signing and transaction check.”

Continued support for previous models

Despite these new releases, both companies are maintaining support for their older devices.

Trezor stated that all its wallets remain fully supported with ongoing updates, while Ledger emphasized it has never released an update that makes any older device obsolete.
