The U.S. Department of Justice has indicted Muneeb Akhter and Sohaib Akhter for hacking into and deleting 96 government databases shortly after being laid off. The brothers, using an unrevoked account, accessed the databases related to DHS investigations and FOIA records. Sohaib Akhter altered permissions and executed the deletions, while Muneeb Akhter sought AI assistance to clear SQL Server and Windows Server 2012 logs, attempting to conceal their actions. Previously convicted of hacking the State Department, the brothers allegedly discussed removing evidence from their home and reinstalling the company's laptop system before their arrest. The incident highlights significant security vulnerabilities in government contractor systems.
