Fuse partners with Check Point for real-time blockchain firewall

Fuse has formed a partnership with Check Point Software Technologies to develop and implement a real-time blockchain firewall that will provide threat prevention across Fuse's network.

This collaboration aims to address emerging security challenges in the rapidly growing blockchain sector, as cryptocurrency platforms have recorded losses exceeding USD $2.2 billion due to cyberattacks in 2024 alone. These attacks have undermined trust in blockchain technologies and have affected the credibility and user adoption of these platforms.

Fuse, which operates a Layer 2 blockchain focused on scalable real-world crypto payments, has outlined plans to deploy a prevention-first security layer developed in partnership with Check Point. This security solution is positioned as the first network-wide, real-time firewall for the blockchain sector by a large cyber security provider.

The security layer will employ AI-powered threat prevention mechanisms to protect smart contracts and wallets, offering real-time identification and mitigation of malicious transactions. Check Point utilises threat engines that draw on over three decades of global cyber intelligence to underpin these capabilities.

Fuse's Chief Executive Officer, Mark Smargon, commented on the partnership. "Prevention is always better than a cure, particularly with crypto networks that serve as the backbone for global payments. With Check Point providing a dedicated security layer, we're confident that we can not only deter hackers, who are becoming increasingly sophisticated, but pioneer a cybersecurity model that will become the gold standard for protecting web3 protocols."

Check Point's involvement brings its enterprise-grade security expertise, aiming to address risks that current blockchain security efforts have not fully managed. The new firewall will operate across the entire Fuse blockchain network, exceeding the typical protection provided by smart contract audits and extending to multiple components, including wallets and decentralised applications (dApps).

Dan Danay, Head of Web 3.0 Security at Check Point Software Technologies, stated: "We're proud to partner with Fuse and bring Check Point's real-time threat prevention to Web3. By applying our leading threat intelligence, we're setting a new standard for blockchain security—protecting users, wallets, and dApps. Just as robust cybersecurity powered the rise of Web 2.0, real-time prevention will be key to Web3's mainstream adoption."

Fuse believes this enhanced security approach will benefit both users and developers, assisting in the wider adoption of blockchain-based B2B and B2C payment solutions. The company regards network-level threat prevention as a response to the increasingly sophisticated tactics employed by those targeting the blockchain ecosystem.

The introduction of real-time threat detection builds on Fuse's recent initiatives, including the launch of Ember Nodes. This programme, with backing from organisations such as Collider Ventures, Tectona, Spark, TRGC, and Blockchain Founders Fund, has encouraged community engagement in network governance and validation by enabling users to participate directly in operations.

Check Point's history includes its development of network firewall technology during the Web 2.0 era, and by extending these principles to Web 3.0 infrastructure, the company aims to address what it describes as the sector's "most critical barrier—security." The partnership is also positioned to support Fuse's ambition to become a prominent network for stablecoin payments within the Web3 sphere, with an emphasis on protecting users across its ecosystem
