Monad Builds AI System To Find Bugs Before Hackers Can

Monad (MON) built an internal AI system that hunts and verifies smart contract bugs for roughly $100 each, even as its locked capital pushed past $400 million.

Key Points:

  • Monad's security team built an AI tool called Bugfinder that hunts and verifies smart contract vulnerabilities.
  • The system separates aggressive scanning from independent validation, cutting the false positives that plague automated tools.
  • The launch lands as Monad's total value locked crosses $400 million within six months of mainnet.

Monad Bugfinder Targets Vulnerabilities

Monad's foundation security team has deployed an internal AI-assisted system called Bugfinder, built over roughly a month to hunt vulnerabilities in the network's execution and consensus clients.

The tool works less like a chatbot reviewing code and more like an automated research pipeline.

It generates a large volume of potential exploit leads, then filters out false positives through validation stages before narrowing the list into confirmed bugs and a final report.

Antonio Viggiano, a security engineer at Monad, said each confirmed issue costs roughly $100 in API credits. He stressed the value of splitting discovery from validation, which lets agents scan aggressively and then independently confirm whether a flaw is actually exploitable.

Co-founder Keone Hon praised the work on X, describing it as an insightful look at how the team secures the network.

Viggiano Flags False Positives

The approach speaks to a broader shift in blockchain security, where defenders are racing to match the AI tools that attackers now wield.

Independent research cited by the team suggests more than half of 2025's blockchain exploits could have been carried out autonomously by current AI agents.

Frontier models have improved sharply. The team noted that scores on a key software engineering benchmark jumped from about a third of issues resolved in late 2024 to roughly 80% by early 2026.

That gain matters because false positives remain the central weakness of automated security tooling, and Viggiano's design tries to neutralize them by separating the scanning step from independent verification.

Monad TVL Tops $400M

The security push arrives during a stretch of fast ecosystem growth. Monad launched its mainnet in Nov. 2025 and has since become one of the quickest emerging Layer 1 networks to gain traction.

Total value locked recently crossed $400 million, up from around $355 million weeks earlier. The chain claims throughput of up to 10,000 transactions per second and has processed well over 100 million transactions.

Skeptics have flagged a gap between that capital and the network's thin fee generation, which has averaged under $3,000 a day, raising questions about whether token incentives, rather than organic use, are driving the numbers.
