John Deaton, a former U.S. Senate candidate and pro-crypto lawyer, has announced his candidacy to unseat Senator Ed Markey in the 2026 midterm elections. Markey, 79, has been a congressional representative for over five decades and is known for his anti-crypto stance, having opposed the GENIUS Act and other cryptocurrency-friendly legislation. Deaton previously ran against Senator Elizabeth Warren in 2024, losing by a margin of 19%. He believes the upcoming race against Markey will present a different outcome.
