Canaan Inc., a leading Bitcoin mining hardware manufacturer, has initiated a 3-megawatt pilot project in Manitoba, Canada, aimed at utilizing excess heat from Bitcoin mining for greenhouse agriculture. In collaboration with Bitforest Investment, the project deploys 360 Avalon liquid-cooled servers to recover thermal energy, which is then used to provide auxiliary heating for tomato greenhouses through a closed-loop heat exchange system. Canaan estimates that approximately 90% of the electrical energy consumed can be converted into usable heat, reducing energy consumption and costs while also contributing to lower carbon emissions.
