Elon Musk's lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft will proceed to a jury trial in April, following a California federal judge's decision to dismiss the companies' request to throw out the case. Musk's legal team has filed a $134 billion claim for unjust enrichment, with estimates of OpenAI's enrichment ranging from $65.5 billion to $109.4 billion, and Microsoft's from $13.3 billion to $25.1 billion. Financial economist C. Paul Wazzan has been hired as an expert witness to support these calculations. Musk, who co-founded OpenAI in 2015 with a $38 million investment, claims his contributions were pivotal to the company's success. He argues that OpenAI's transition to a for-profit entity, now valued at $500 billion, and its close ties with Microsoft, deviate from its original non-profit mission. Musk seeks compensation for what he views as his rightful share of the company's enrichment.
