Ethereum is experiencing difficulties processing data-heavy blocks following its December Fusaka upgrade, according to research by MigaLabs. The upgrade, intended to increase data capacity by allowing more 'blobs' from layer 2 networks, has led to higher miss rates for blocks with 16 or more blobs. This raises concerns about the network's ability to handle increased data throughput from layer 2 blockchains. MigaLabs' analysis, which includes data from October 2025, indicates that while the target blob count was increased, the median number of blobs per slot has decreased. High blob counts remain rare, but when they occur, miss rates can rise significantly, potentially threatening network stability. MigaLabs recommends pausing further increases to blob capacity until miss rates stabilize and demand approaches current limits.
