Two California teenagers, aged 16 and 17, face felony charges after allegedly driving over 600 miles to Arizona to commit a violent home invasion targeting a family they believed held $66 million in cryptocurrency. On January 31, the suspects, disguised in a FedEx uniform, forcibly entered a Scottsdale home, tied up two adults, and assaulted them in an attempt to obtain cryptocurrency. The victims denied possessing any crypto, leading to further violence. Police intervened, finding a woman screaming and a man fighting one suspect. The teenagers fled but were apprehended shortly after. The suspects face eight charges, including kidnapping and serious assault. This incident highlights a growing trend of "wrench attacks" on crypto holders, with 60 such attacks reported in 2025, up from 41 in 2024 and 36 in 2021.
