Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin introduced the "Walkaway Test" at the ETH ChiangMai togETHer Tuesday event on January 27. This test assesses whether decentralized applications (dApps) can truly operate independently of centralized dependencies. Buterin emphasized that ideally, users should be able to continue using an application even if developers or servers suddenly disappear. Buterin pointed out that while blockchain technology itself is trustless, many applications still rely on Web2 architectures, including centralized logins and servers. This reliance undermines the decentralization ethos and highlights a critical area for improvement in current dApp development.
