Apple has introduced the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips for the new MacBook Pro, marking a significant leap in local AI performance. These chips feature Fusion Architecture, combining two third-generation 3nm chips into a single SoC. The 18-core CPU, with six Super Cores and twelve Performance Cores, offers up to 2.5 times higher multithreaded performance and 30% faster professional workflow speeds compared to the M1 series. The GPU, with up to 40 cores, integrates a Neural Accelerator in each core, enhancing peak AI GPU performance by over four times. The M5 Pro supports up to 64GB of unified memory and 307GB/s bandwidth, while the M5 Max supports up to 128GB of memory and 614GB/s bandwidth. Additional features include a 16-core Neural Engine, AV1 decoding, ProRes encoding and decoding, and a Thunderbolt 5 controller. The new MacBook Pro will be available from March 11.
