India is poised to receive over 15 million barrels of Russian crude oil, as vessel tracking data reveals a significant number of tankers in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. This development follows the U.S. issuance of a temporary license allowing such purchases, providing India with a strategic option to counter Middle East supply disruptions. The crude, currently unsold and without designated ports, is expected to reach Indian shores within a week. In addition to these shipments, approximately eight vessels carrying around 7 million barrels of Urals crude are stationed near Singapore, with potential arrival in India also within a week. Further shipments are en route via the Mediterranean and Suez Canal, anticipated to arrive in India within a month. Data from Kpler shows that tankers began redirecting to Indian ports even before the U.S. license was issued, with 18 Urals crude tankers now headed for India. Analyst Sumit Ritolia suggests that Indian refiners may quickly resume procurement, potentially increasing daily purchase volumes above 2 million barrels, as the discount on Russian crude could narrow or turn into a premium.
