SEC Dismisses Case Against BitClout Founder Nader Al-Naji

News Flash 2026-03-16 14:39

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has dismissed its case against Nader Al-Naji, founder of the blockchain-based social media platform BitClout, with prejudice. The decision follows a reassessment of the evidentiary record and the development of a regulatory framework by the crypto task force. This dismissal prevents the SEC from refiling the same charges against Al-Naji or related parties. Al-Naji, a former Google engineer and creator of the DeSo blockchain, was accused of raising over $257 million through the sale of BitClout's native token, BTCLT, and misusing funds for personal expenses. The SEC's decision to drop the case does not imply a change in its stance on other crypto-related enforcement actions. The Department of Justice had previously ended a separate wire fraud case against Al-Naji without prejudice.
