Judge Denies SBF's Mother Right to File Documents on His Behalf

U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan has informed Barbara Fried, mother of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), that she cannot submit documents or seek relief on her son's behalf. Despite her request for an extension due to SBF's limited access to word processing and files while incarcerated, Judge Kaplan emphasized that only SBF or his legal team could file such requests. The judge has extended the deadline for SBF or his lawyers to request an extension to March 23. Bankman-Fried, sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2023 for his involvement in the FTX collapse, recently filed a motion citing new evidence and seeking a retrial. Judge Kaplan's decision underscores the legal boundaries for third-party interventions in ongoing cases.
