Additionally, the report advocates for the creation of a political finance enforcement unit within the National Crime Agency and tighter regulations on overseas donors. Reform UK is currently the only major party accepting crypto donations, having received £12 million last year from investors linked to Tether, which led to an investigation. Cybersecurity experts caution that a KYC-based ban could necessitate the central storage of personal data, potentially creating vulnerabilities. The committee acknowledges the ability of cryptographic tools to obscure fund sources but argues that existing regulations are inadequate to prevent rule circumvention.
