The scammer, identified as an Argentine immigrant in the U.S., was reported to ICE following exposure by open-source intelligence sleuths who tracked his social media activity. The game, which has since been removed from Steam, was linked to 907 victims. Researchers, including VX-Underground, have criticized Steam's vetting process as inadequate. Meanwhile, Plavnieks has garnered community support and is nearing his GoFundMe target for medical treatment.
