The Cambodian Senate has unanimously passed the Law on Anti-Technology Fraud, imposing severe penalties including life imprisonment for leaders of online scam operations. Approved on April 3, 2026, with 58 votes in favor, the law targets dismantling illegal scam compounds by the end of April. Offenders whose activities result in fatalities face life sentences or 15–30 years in prison. This legislation, Cambodia's first dedicated framework against cybercrime, follows a unanimous vote in the National Assembly and awaits the final signature from King Norodom Sihamoni. Justice Minister Koeut Rith emphasized the law's strictness, aiming to eradicate online scams, human trafficking, and cryptocurrency-based money laundering. Since June 2025, Cambodia has deported over 30,000 suspected scammers and closed 200 illegal sites, aligning with international efforts to combat fraud in Southeast Asia.
