Andre Cronje Addresses Aave's Response to $200M rsETH Incident

Andre Cronje, co-founder of Sonic Labs, has clarified that Aave lacks a user loss subsidy mechanism following a $200 million rsETH incident. Preliminary investigations indicate the loss resulted from a private key compromise or configuration error, leading to the assets being deposited into Aave to borrow ETH. Cronje emphasized that while affected positions remain collateralized, Aave's tokenomics and safety module will absorb risks in case of defaults. Aave currently holds $7 billion in ETH with $100 million in withdrawal requests, limiting the event's overall impact. Flying Tulip has withdrawn all ETH from Aave to maintain liquidity as available funds fell below the minimum threshold.
