Ethereum Forms dAI Team to Develop Decentralized AI Settlement Layer

News Flash 2025-09-23 20:17

Ethereum has launched a new decentralized AI (dAI) team, led by Davide Crapis, to establish the blockchain as a key settlement and coordination layer for AI technologies. The initiative focuses on decentralizing infrastructure and creating a decentralized AI economic system. To facilitate this, Ethereum introduced ERC-8004, a proposal for a trustless agent architecture, and x402, which integrates encrypted payment functionality into Google's A2A agent communication protocol. MetaMask and ConsenSys have shown support for the initiative, with ConsenSys committing to multi-chain and self-custody support for x402. Early implementations include DINBuild's x402 micro-payment feature for RPC access and Ethereum's partnership with Virtuals to conduct developer workshops.
