Cartier admitted to running an unlicensed money transmitting business and conspiracy to commit bank fraud. He used falsified documents and misrepresented the purpose of his businesses to financial institutions, claiming they were involved in software development. Authorities revealed that these entities primarily served as conduits for laundering drug proceeds, which were initially received in digital assets before being converted to cash and moved through multiple layers to Colombia. The court also ordered Cartier to forfeit $2.36 million in profits from the scheme.
