OpenAI has launched a new Codex migration tool aimed at attracting users of Claude Code. Users can access the tool by navigating to the settings page and selecting "Import other agent setup," which will scan for existing AI coding assistant configurations and transfer data such as system prompts, custom skills, chat history, and more. The migration tool facilitates the transfer of various configurations, including MCP server settings and automated scripts, while providing guidance for manual adjustments where automatic conversion is not possible. OpenAI advises users to verify permissions and authentication settings post-migration, as direct transfers may not always be compatible due to differing permission systems.
