Security researchers from Calif have successfully bypassed Apple's M5 chip memory defenses using Anthropic's Mythos Preview model. The team constructed the first known macOS kernel memory corruption exploit chain on devices with M5 chips, overcoming Apple's Memory Integrity Enforcement (MIE) in just five days. This exploit chain, which combines two vulnerabilities and multiple techniques, allowed the team to escalate privileges from an unprivileged local user account to root access on macOS 26.4.1. The Mythos model's ability to generalize from known attack types enabled rapid vulnerability identification, showcasing the potential of AI-assisted security research.
