A 60-year-old woman, Meng, has been sentenced to four years in prison for defrauding a young man of over 200,000 yuan by posing as a 20-year-old girl in an online romance scam. The Haidian District Procuratorate in Beijing revealed that Meng fabricated the identity of an 'adopted daughter' to swindle the victim, claiming needs such as family illness and study abroad expenses. Meng invested the swindled funds in leveraged cryptocurrency trading, ultimately losing everything due to a market crash. The victim became suspicious when he noticed inconsistencies in Meng's story and reported her to the police. In addition to the prison sentence, Meng was fined and ordered to reimburse the stolen funds.
