Tommaso De Rossi has launched 'usecomputer', a native Zig CLI tool designed for desktop automation, now available as open-source. Released on March 25, 2026, the tool allows AI coding assistants like Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode to control desktop functions such as mouse and keyboard operations and screenshot capturing. It supports macOS and Linux systems, with compatibility for Wayland via XWayland. usecomputer offers a range of CLI commands for various desktop interactions, including mouse movements, keyboard inputs, and shortcut key combinations. It features a coordinate mapping system that translates screenshot pixel coordinates to screen coordinates, scaling screenshots to fit model context windows. The tool also supports the Kitty Graphics Protocol for embedding screenshots into model contexts. This release is a fork from De Rossi's kimaki monorepo, providing both CLI and Node.js library interfaces, with integration examples for OpenAI and Anthropic tools included.
