Palihapitiya highlighted that these AI labs are not only providing models but are also developing enterprise services that compete directly with traditional consultancies. OpenAI and Anthropic have collectively committed $5.5 billion to build consulting capabilities, with OpenAI's recent launch of the OpenAI Deployment Company and Anthropic's enterprise services arm. Palihapitiya suggests that consultancies should pivot from being mere resellers of AI compute to developing model-agnostic "control planes" that manage data and token distribution across providers. He cited his startup, 8090, which has partnered with EY to enhance AI-driven product development, as a model for this approach. The warning underscores the strategic need for consultancies to adapt or risk being replaced by the very AI technologies they are helping to implement.
