French Court Reviews Extradition of American Accused of $46M Crypto Theft

The Bastia Court of Appeal in France is reviewing the extradition case of John Daghita, a 22-year-old American accused of stealing $46 million in cryptocurrency from the U.S. federal government. Daghita was arrested in early March in Saint Martin by the French National Gendarmerie Intervention Group (GIGN) in collaboration with the FBI. During the arrest, authorities seized cash, USB drives, and digital asset wallets. Daghita has agreed to the principle of extradition, and the court is expected to make a decision on May 28. He remains in custody at the Bastia detention center, with his lawyer planning to apply for his release. The charges against Daghita are still pending further judicial proceedings.
